Desert Corridor and Maritime Corridor

Major transportation corridors connecting San Felipe to the Baja Peninsula and beyond, driving tourism and economic growth.

Connecting San Felipe to the Peninsula

Two major corridor initiatives are shaping San Felipe's connectivity: the Desert Corridor, which reconnects the coastal road to the main Baja highway, and a long-term Maritime Corridor vision for new coastal shipping and travel routes. Together, these initiatives position San Felipe as a central hub in Baja California's transportation network.

The Desert Corridor

The road from Puertocitos is being developed to reconnect with the Desert Corridor, the main highway running from Tijuana to La Paz along the Baja Peninsula. This approximately 111-kilometer road already hosts more than 150,000 tourists annually, and improvements will dramatically increase capacity and accessibility.

The 7 Sections of the San Felipe Corridor

The San Felipe Corridor is organized into seven distinct sections, each representing a unique stretch of the coastal and desert landscape:

Section 1

North

The northern entry point to the San Felipe Corridor.

Section 2

San Felipe

The town center and main community hub.

Section 3

Corridor Sur

The southern corridor connecting to beach communities.

Section 4

Percebu

A scenic coastal section with residential communities.

Section 5

Delicias

Named for the Delicias area along the coast.

Section 6

San Juan De Los Lagos

A community section with growing development.

Section 7

Puertocitos

The southern terminus connecting to the Desert Corridor.

Four-Lane Expansion Plans

To accommodate growing traffic demands, a four-lane expansion is planned for the San Felipe Corridor. This expansion will modernize the roadway, increase capacity, and improve safety for the hundreds of thousands of travelers who use the corridor each year.

Increased Capacity

Four lanes will double the road's capacity, reducing congestion during peak travel periods and holidays.

Improved Safety

Divided lanes, modern signage, and better road surfaces will significantly improve safety for all travelers.

Economic Growth

Better infrastructure attracts more visitors, businesses, and real estate investment to the entire San Felipe region.

The Maritime Corridor Vision

Complementing the Desert Corridor on land, a long-term government vision for a Maritime Corridor envisions new coastal shipping and travel routes along the Sea of Cortez. This ambitious plan calls for up to 10 ports of call that would enhance coastal travel, commerce, and tourism throughout the region.

Planned Ports of Call

The Maritime Corridor plan envisions ports of call along the Sea of Cortez coast, connecting communities from the Pacific coast to the gulf. Key locations in the plan include:

Ensenada

Major Pacific coast port city

San Felipe

Central Sea of Cortez hub

Puerto Penasco

Popular Sonoran coast destination

Additional Ports

7 more ports along the corridor

Enhanced Coastal Travel

The Maritime Corridor would create new travel options along the Sea of Cortez, allowing passengers and cargo to move between coastal communities by water. This would open up previously isolated stretches of coastline and provide scenic travel alternatives to overland routes.

Business Opportunities

New ports of call would mean new business opportunities for San Felipe and surrounding communities. Maritime commerce, tourism services, port facilities, and related industries would create jobs and drive economic growth throughout the region.

What This Means for San Felipe

Regional Hub Status

Both corridors position San Felipe as a key transportation hub connecting northern Baja to the rest of the peninsula by land and sea.

Tourism Growth

With 150,000+ tourists already using the corridor annually, improved infrastructure will attract even more visitors to the region.

Property Value Appreciation

Major infrastructure investment signals strong long-term growth potential for real estate in the San Felipe corridor.

New Commerce Routes

Maritime and land corridors open new supply chains and business routes that will benefit the entire community.
